This week we have finished our work on ‘Alice in Wonderland’. The children have used the story as inspiration for their moving pictures in DT , they are very creative. In Maths we have been continuing our work on multiplication. The children have been focussing on understanding the ‘x’ symbol and making and drawing arrays. In English we have published our setting descriptions and the children have made great use of a wide range of features such as alliteration, similes and expanded noun phrases.
Next term our topic will be ‘Ready, Steady, Grow’. We will be learning about the different parts of plants, what plants need to grow and thrive and writing instructions on how to make a salad sandwich.
Have a lovely half term.
This week in Year Two we have been finishing up our work on subtraction and are ready to begin multiplication. We will be looking at recognising and creating equal groups and then representing this as a number sentence.
In English the children have been working hard to create effective similes using the word ‘like’. We have some very imaginative children!
We have had lots of fun in Geography identifying different map symbols and making up some of our own! If you are off out and about this weekend you could try asking your child to read the map on the way!
As the cold weather continues please ensure that you child had a full outdoor PE kit at school and that they come to school in appropriate outdoor winter clothing. Many thanks.
What an exciting start to the week we had with our visit from The Oxford Story Museum! Hannah came and really brought the story of Alice in Wonderland alive. The children participated in a wide range of creative activities which included flamingo croquet, measuring their height against that of story characters and lots of drama activities. Great fun was had by all.
In Maths we continue to work on our number skills, focussing on subtraction and methods of recording. Next week we will also begin to look at exchanging when subtracting.
As part of our DT project we continued to looking at moving parts, creating flaps and wheels. Next week we will begin to design our moving pictures.
Some children are still coming to school without their full PE kit. Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit, including trainers, in school on a Monday morning and then they can take it home on the Friday. Despite the weather being cold the children will still be doing their outdoor PE sessions so please ensure they have the appropriate outdoor PE kit.
For those children playing the recorder please ensure that it is in school with them on Monday.
New spellings were given out on Wednesday and your child will be tested on these next Wednesday.
Thank you for your support.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
